Maya Beach is a small village surrounded by water on all sides and can be conveniently reached by car or by plane.  Located on the magnificent southern coast of Belize on the northern side of the Placencia Peninsula, it is a hidden jewel on the road less traveled.  Cashew Tree Cottage is centrally located right in the heart of Maya Beach, across the street from miles of unspoiled white sandy beach great for swimming and snorkeling so bring your gear.  You can reach Maya Beach in half an hour from Belize International Airport by connecting with Tropic Air which has several daily nonstop flights to the Placencia Airstrip, and the village is a ten minute drive north of the airstrip.  You can also rent a car from Belize International Airport and drive down the newly paved Hummingbird Highway known for its breathtaking views and reach in three hours. 

Nestled among trees with abundant birdlife, the cottage sits on a quarter acre at the end of a quiet backroad.  The only noise you will hear will be the sound of an occasional motor boat chugging its way through the canal in our backyard towards the Placencia lagoon.  Grocery shopping, restaurants and bars, bike rentals and tour information are all within walking distance from the cottage.  If you wish to visit a larger more commercialized tourist area, local taxis are available.  The exchange rate is 2:1 so your dollars will stretch twice as far, allowing you to enjoy the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean at Central American prices.  Mayan Indian, Afro-Caribbean, European and Spanish cultures provide an interesting diversity in this tiny democratic nation.
  

The cottage is custom built from native hardwoods and is fully furnished.  It is a one bedroom plus den with an air-conditioner and ceiling fan in each room and screened windows throughout.  Tables and chairs are in the main dining room and also on the veranda for outside dining.  The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a large stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, a tiled bathroom and shower, local art work, a flat screen TV with cable and high speed internet, everything you would need for a comfortable stay at a reasonable price.  The cottage also provides you with hot water showers, bottled drinking water, a good supply of linens and towels, and a laundry room with washer and dryer.  Chill out and relax in a hammock on the screened in veranda or sit on our private boat dock and observe many colorful native birds chirping away in the trees. Frequent visitors are herons, egrets, wild parrots, doves, hummingbirds, kingfishers, and orioles. 

Unlike most hotels and resorts, you have the option of complete privacy and independence, or the convenience of community a short walk away.  We cater to retired couples seeking a relaxing, romantic getaway since we are located on a secluded property in a safe village that is quiet at night.
